INNOVATION – SMART OHE
ALL PARAMETERS OF OHE ARE MAINTAINED AS PER ACTM (AC TRACTION MANNUAL) AND RDSO GUIDELINE. INNOVATIVE MAINTENANCE STRATEGY BASED ON LATEST TECHNOLOGY ARE BEING ADOPTED FOR BETTER MAINTENANCE STRATEGY, REDUCED FAILURES,, SPEED,EFFICIENCY & ECONOMY . TO MAKE OHE SMART AND ECONOMIC, SYSTEM LIKE TDMS, TEMS,OPEN ACCESS, TRACKSIDE SOLAR AND 2x25 KV SYSTEM etc ARE BEING INTRODUCED BY ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT.
TRACTION DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (TDMS App)
•GPS based tracking of Patrol man and OHE assets.
•Real time capturing of OHE defects and provision of taking photographs.
•Exception generation and alerts through SMS to depot in-charge and officers.
•Efficient analysis and decision making through real time reporting and images.
TDMS- INNOVATIVE MAINTENANCE STRATEGY
| Existing System Foot patrolling by TRD staff/ supervisor for capturing defects in OHE. Entry of defects in foot patrolling form and register. | | Expectation Real time defects capturing. Tracking of foot patrolmen. Digitalformandreport generation. Categorization of defects for better understanding. | | |

MONITORINGTHROUGH TDMS
•Masters- 44 Point Reliability Action Plan.
•Reports-
•Inspection register- (i) OHE Breakdown (ii) One Page Report
•Asset Register- Cantilever Assembly, Catenary wire , Contact wire, Earth Resistance, HT crossing, Isolator Switch, Jumper, Level Crossing Gauge, Mast/Portal, OHE Gantry, Over line Structure, Overlap, PTFE, Regulating Equipment, Section Insulators, Turn Out X-over.
•Asset Maintenance Register- Details of items as per Asset Register.
•Daily Progress Register-Daily progress report should be upload on TDMS by Depot In charge (SSE) of Divisions.
•Master Defects Register-Defects should be entered in format –
• (I) Location (ii) Asset Type (iii) Items needing attention (iv) Defective value/condition (v) Compliance date (vi) Compliance by
•Thermography Report-OHE/PSI components are checked by Thermal Vision Camera for its healthiness.
•Asset status Report-This report is up load by In charge of Depots/SSE.
•Maintenance due overdue Report-
•Foot Patrol Report- Foot patrolling is done with mobile app.
•Current Collection Report- Current Collection is conducted by OLIVIR G.
ADVANTAGES OF TDMS
Great app - quite a need especially due to covid-19
•Patrolling monitoring and issue logging simplified.
•Audit & Tracking of reported issues streamlined.
•Faster resolution of issue with available data and images.
•Performance reporting.
TRACTION ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (TEMS)
▪ Availing Open Access &migrating from consumer mode.
▪ Close Load Scheduling of TSSs for open access.
▪Aggregation of Instantaneous and block-wise load profiles.
▪Report generation for -analysis -improved forecasting and scheduling of load.
▪Comparison of actual drawl against scheduled drawl.
▪Load schedule violation prediction alarm generation when schedule violates.
▪Real-time monitoring of TSS’s Energy & Line parameters.
▪Data visualization and report generation.
▪Alarm generation when meter parameter’s limit violates.
GREEN & LOW COST POWER FOR OHE
Ø Installation of Solar Panel along the track (5 m apart from track), produced power will be feed to OHE. Survey of Land for Installation of Solar Panel is under progress.
• Solar power will be feed to OHE through Power Banking System.
Advantage Of Installation of Solar Pane
This will reduce energy cost.
Green Energy, suitable for environment.
Use of un- utilized land.
Open Access in E C Railway
In terms of Electricity Act, 2003 , Power for Traction is availed through Open Access as it provides Non-discriminatory sale/purchase of electric power/energy between two parties utilizing the system of an in-between (third party), and not blocking it on unreasonable grounds.
To ensure consumers receive adequate supply from alternate competitive sources and enabling the captive generators to sell their surplus capacities while the distribution licensee improves performance.
Railways as deemed distribution licensee taking power from generators for zonal railway from BRBCL, RGPPL, JIPTL as follows:
From BRBCL/NTPP : ECR, ECR, ER, SER, NR, NER, NFR, NCR, WCR, CR, WR
From RGPPL : CR, SER
From JIPTL : NR
Open Access with BRBCL :Joint venture of Railway and NTPC
BRBCL is Joint venture of Railway and NTPC for setting up 4x250MW Power Project at Nabinagar, Bihar. In which 90% generated power is utilized by Railway.
East Central Railway is Nodal for BRBCL. All bills regarding BRBCL is raised by firm to ECR and
•Distribution powerto Railway as allotted by Railway board:
•CR-120 MW
•WCR-60 MW
•NCR-55 MW
•NR-185 MW
•SWR-10 MW
•DVC Command Area-110 MW
•ECR(Bihar)-100 MW
Savings from Open Access
•Saving as a result of availing power through Open access/BRBCL-
•The Average Cost in Consumer mode = Rs.12.06/Unit
•The Average Cost in Open Access mode = Rs.7.22/Unit
•Saving in Average Cost = Rs.4.84/Unit
•Consumption in Open Access = 187.73 Million Unit
•Total saving in Open Access in (April’20 to August’20) = Rs.90.86 Crores
•Saving as a result of availing power through Open access/DVC is about Rs 70 crores
2x25 KV OHE
will be introduced on GC (PKA- DDU)for operation of train at high speed i.e. 160 kmph Estimate has been got sanctioned recently, Tender to be invited shortly.
Ø Advantage of 2x25 KV OHE
•Abolition ofTractions bonds completely. There will be no need to deputethe TRD staff during maintenance of Track by Machine for safety of bonds
•Overcome the problem oflow voltage in section, this will be beneficial to Electric loco having latest Technology.
•System is designed forhigh speed i.e. 160 kmph
•Return Current through Track will be abolished. This will be advantageousfor S&T department.
Problem of Burning of signal bond at Glued Joint will be solved.
•No of TSS/SP and SSP will be reduced.
